Abstract

The Indonesian maritime continent (BMI) is a country in tropical region located between two oceans. The El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) phenomena are non-seasonal tropical circulation in the Pacific and Indian oceans. However, they have an essential role in rainfall variability in the BMI region. ENSO is a weather phenomenon in the Pacific Ocean, while IOD is a weather phenomenon in the Indian Ocean. This study aims to determine the impact of ENSO and IOD on rainfall in three cities in the north of Java. The data used are rainfall data for 2004-2013 from 3 rain observation posts at Jatiwangi, Tegal, and Semarang Meteorological Stations, and comparative data used in Nino 3.4 Index data Dipole Mode Index (DMI). Index analysis shows that the ENSO phenomenon significantly influences the northern region of Java on JJA and SON in three observation locations (Jatiwangi, Tegal, and Semarang), specifically for Jatiwangi, there is also a significant relationship in the MAM season. In all regions, there is no significant correlation between the IOD phenomenon and rainfall.
